In fact, C. Lewis did such a good job transforming Edmund's character in the first book that by this point he's almost boring. The narrator of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader seems to think so, too, because Edmund never really takes center stage during any of the episodes of the adventure.
Most of the time he seems to just be along for the ride, enjoying Narnia but not really contributing anything significantly different from what Lucy or Caspian can give to the voyage.
Edmund's moment to shine in this book is as Eustace's confidante in Chapter 7, when Edmund listens as Eustace describes his meeting with Aslan and his transformation from a dragon back into a boy. Like Eustace, Edmund didn't really understand good and evil when he first came to Narnia, and like Eustace, he held everyone else back. Although he doesn't say much while Eustace tells his story, it's important for us as readers to see a cycle of character transformation.

In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe , he betrays his siblings to Jadis, the White Witch while under her influence , but as the story goes on he accepts that he has done wrong.
In the book, Edmund is described as having ash blonde hair , grey eyes and dimples like his siblings. He is the only one out of brother and sisters to have light hair which as Lewis states represents him being an outsider. In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe , Edmund is one of the main characters, at the age of 10 years old, and the character who develops the most over the story.
It is said in the book that Edmund started his life as a likeable person, but then changed for the worse and began to act meanly after moving into a new school.
However, in the movie adaptation of the book, it is said that he is upset that they are sent away from home, on account of their father forced to serve the war. Edmund talks cruely to Lucy when she first finds the entrance to Narnia through a wardrobe, and is the second of the Pevensie children to go to Narnia , after following Lucy so he could tease her.
While there, he meets Jadis, the White Witch who introduces herself as the Queen of Narnia and he gets to eat some magical Turkish delight, which causes an addiction in the person who eats it. After that, he promises the White Witch that he will bring his brother and sisters to her castle, not knowing that she was intending to kill them all to prove a Narnian prophecy.
Lucy did mention the White Witch in a conversation and Edmund realizes that the witch was none other than the "Queen of Narnia", but the magic of the Turkish Delight was so strong that he decided to go to the castle for more.
When Edmund returns to the normal world, he refuses having been in Narnia, not wanting to admit that Lucy was speaking the truth. When the four of the Pevensie children later go through the wardrobe he says that he has been in Narnia before. He and the other siblings are protected by Mr and Mrs Beaver. But when the Beavers and the other three Pevensie children are having a conversation about the arrival of Aslan, Edmund sneaks away to the White Witch's castle, where he hopes to be made a prince and later on a king.
By this point Edmund's character has matured a great deal which can be seen in the way he deals with his cousin Eustace and in the power struggle with Caspian. By this time also, Edmund has completely refrained from mistreating and insulting Lucy.
When Eustace changes his behavior after being changed back from a dragon, Edmund mentions his own betrayal and says that Eustace wasn't worse than he was. Disney Wiki Explore. Toy Story Monsters, Inc. Video Games. Explore Wikis Community Central.

Edmund was crowned king of Narnia , along with his brother Peter , and sisters Susan and Lucy Pevensie. These titles signify his honour and bravery. Edmund was born in , the third child of his parents, Mr. Pevensie and Helen Pevensie. In , sometime before his second birthday, his sister Lucy was born. At this time, the Pevensie family lived in London, England. Edmund began attending boarding school with his brother Peter in , at the age of nine.
The experience was apparently a bad one for him, as his personality afterwards began to get worse. Around this time, World War II began, and the children's father was called away to fight in the war. Some time later, in the month of September, in , Edmund and his siblings were evacuated from London, due to the German bombings on the city. They were sent to live in the countryside with an old professor called Professor Digory Kirke.
Shortly after their arrival, Edmund began mocking Lucy who professed to have visited Narnia, and befriended a Faun called Mr. Tumnus , through a Wardrobe , hidden somewhere inside the Professor's mansion. Shortly afterwards, Edmund followed his little sister through the wardrobe, where she claimed her magical country existed. He was shocked to discover she had been telling the truth, as he found himself in a wintry forest. While he was there, he soon stumbled across a sleigh carrying a large lady.
The woman introduced herself as Jadis, the Queen of Narnia. After inviting him to sit and talk with her, and conjuring him food and drink, the Queen confided in Edmund that she had always wanted a son like him to be her heir. Over the course of their chat, Edmund, who of course had no idea of the significance of his information beyond the fact he was telling it to a complete stranger, told her a great deal about his family, and that Lucy had already visited her country , and that she had met Mr.
She offered to make him a prince if he brought his siblings to her realm, to make them dukes and duchesses. Edmund agreed, even though he had no real interest in his siblings getting anything, and promised to keep it a surprise, bidding farewell to the Queen. Shortly afterwards, he found Lucy in the forest, and the two returned to the Professor's house.
Lucy warned Edmund that Narnia was ruled by an evil witch who claimed to be the Queen. Despite this warning, Edmund continued to plan to meet with Jadis again, and when questioned by Peter and Susan, Edmund lied and refused to admit that he had in fact seen Narnia.
Several days later, the four siblings were forced to hide in the magic wardrobe , in an attempt to hide from the housekeeper, Mrs.
Thus, all four stumbled into Narnia, and Edmund was forced to admit his lie. When he did, needless to say, his brother was furious with him, calling him a poisonous little beast, but said nothing more to him. Edmund, though, swore to himself that he would get them all back. After that, they decided to go to visit Mr. Tumnus, but upon arriving at his home , however, the four were dismayed to find it empty, with a warrant for Mr.
Tumnus's arrest hanging over the door. Before they could choose what to do, the four were distracted by a bird, who led them into the forests where a Beaver was waiting. The Beaver, called Mr.
Beaver , explained to them that Narnia was indeed oppressed by the one everyone called the White Witch , but who referred to herself as the queen of Narnia. He then took them to his home, where he told them that the true king was called Aslan , and he had returned to reclaim his kingdom. He also told the siblings that according to Aslan's word, the four humans were prophesied to defeat the witch and take her place as the new monarchs of Narnia.
In the midst of the meal, Edmund, still planning to meet with the Witch, slipped away and escaped to her castle.
The Witch, however, was furious with him for coming alone, but he told her that he had brought his siblings as far as he could, only for her to throw him into her dungeons. Shortly afterward, he was retrieved from the dungeon, and set out with the Witch on her sleigh to find his siblings. On the journey to the Stone Table , they found a group of animals eating a meal provided by Father Christmas , in celebration of the return of Aslan.
In her anger, she turned the lot of them into stone by use of a magic wand that she possessed over Edmund's protests. With this, Edmund finally learned to his horror what kind of a woman the Witch truly was, and became repentant for his earlier betrayal.
