In the unlikely case you were able to read through all of that shit above AND understand any of it I would like to congratulate you to potentially be the first person that understands me.
God knows I tried with my brother, my wife, friends and of course random strangers on the internet. I failed every time. That can help you to quickly identify how much of a stretch the desired setup would have. Also if you think there is something wrong - however unlikely that may seem - feel free to also let me know. I hardly believe this is an enjoyable read, but I hope it was somewhat helpful anyway.
PS: Yes, I have a fetish for tires and wheels , touching new tires is my favourite spare time activity. Excellent guide and makes total sense to me!
I just looked up the sizes I ended up running and both are stage 1, which confirms the same consistency of stretch! Thank you for taking the time. Tire stretching can cause irregular tread wear. Stretched tires have become quite popular over the last few years among car enthusiasts.
Before you stretch your tires, consider the state you live in and check the legality of doing so. If anything, keep the stretch minimal and look for acceptable ranges as per the tire manufacturer you are working with. Usually, they will have tire catalogs displaying guidelines. For instance, both Nanking and Falken have their catalogs listed online. Luckily websites like Tyrestretch.
This site features an active community of Tire Tyre stretching enthusiasts and the members submit what they use for their vehicles. The quick answer is yes. The main argument for stretching your tires is aesthetics. Some people just like the look of stretched tires on their car or truck. There are also people that claim stretching your tires will give you an advantage in autocross scenarios because stretching your tires should provide a larger tire surface overall when compared to a tire that is not stretched.
However, in real-world scenarios tire stretching will not provide any real performance benefit. You would probably be better off buying wider wheels and tires if you wanted to have better handling performance. Stretching your tires can have some downsides that we will discuss here. The first is that when your tires are stretched over your wheels they are more likely to become separated from the wheel during high-speed cornering.
This is because as your car goes through turns the forces on the tires will try to pull the tire away from the arch of your wheel. While this may not be that big of a deal on a normal tire and wheel setup this can be problematic if your tires trying to pull away from your wheels. If this does happen while you are going through a turn you can expect your wheel lip to be destroyed by the road surface as you bring your car or truck to a halt.
Cars with stretched tires are not the only vehicles that are popular with the stretched tire community. Trucks are also another common vehicle that people will put stretched tires on. Usually, with trucks, the people that put stretched tires on their truck will go with lower-profile tires and wheels so that they can get the stretched look. Most people that put aftermarket wheels and tires on their truck will put larger wheels and tires on instead of going with more low profile tires.
However, there is a small subset of people that like the way that stretched tires look on a truck and will get stretched tires instead of larger and thicker tires. You would first want to find out how wide your wheels are that you plan on putting your stretched tires on. From there you can decide how wide of a tire that you would want to get to put on your wheels to give them that stretched look. You can look at car enthusiast forums to get an idea of what tire sizes other people are going with on their wheels to determine what tire width you should go with.
