What should pear shaped women wear

It was very nicely put content. But I am very confused if I am a pear as my upper body is not small. I am cm tall Shoulder 32 inch Bust 36 inch Waist 30 inch Hips 38 inches Could you please advice me as to what shape I am as all sites either tell me I am a rectangle or spoon. I know that pear shaped does not sound like the most beautiful comparison, but it is just easy to remember. At least easier than explaining you have wide hips, a small chest and waist As I noticed myself how difficult it can be to dress a pear shape — I have one myself — I started to photograph my outfits and put them online.

I think these body shape names are another tool that women can use to compare themselves to others, leading to negative body image and low self confidence. Hi Carlee. I think that you are missing the point of what these names try to do.

They are just a simple way of describing shape. In fact I know that understanding body shape and knowing how to dress for it, can give women more confidence. They realise that they are not defined by their shapes and that clothes can emphasize those parts of their body that they like most about themselves. If you can look beyond the names, then understanding body type and looking how to enhance its best features can increase self-confidence.

Just wondering…how big of a difference do you think kitten heels really make? Those tend to be my favorite since the high heels are not always the most comfortable. What i have noticed about pear shaped body is that I actually love the extreme contrast between the top and the bottom.

Pear shape usually has a small upper body. I find it really beautiful if the upper is fitted belted, body con, or peplum and the bottom is flared as in A line skirt flare. It goes against the grain to want to emphasize the wider bottom half but I personally find it very feminine and alluring. I know a lot of guys find it alluring the see a heavy bottom swoosh and swing inside an A line skirt. Yes, I like that look too.

The right pants can do wonders for balancing out your figure. What to look for? A favorite because of their ability to highlight the features we feel most confident about. Here are some of our favorite silhouettes that do just that. The roomier skirt falls away from the hip instead of clinging to it, which helps streamline your bottom half. The built-in ties are great for defining your waist, and they often have a V-neck that opens up your top half. In fact, it can really make or break an outfit.

For shorter pieces, like blazers or motos, look for ones that hit at or above your waistline to avoid adding fabric at the hip. Remember how we recommended bright or patterned tops to draw the eye up? Same rule applies here. Longer coats work, too, especially when belted.

Look for tailored styles that keep your top half structured. Accessories are key components to any outfit strategy. Casual days call for a great pair of jeans. We chose bootcut denim in a dark wash to help balance out the hips, but straight, slim, and flared cuts can achieve similar results. And see how beautifully the darted waist on the top accentuates pear-shaped curves?

The volume on top is a great way to draw the eye up—and it helps create an hourglass figure, too. We love a good power blazer because it instantly boosts confidence. Go for a piece that has structured shoulders to emphasize your upper body and make sure the jacket hits right at the waist for the most flattering fit. Layer a top with scoop neckline underneath to open up the chest and add a statement necklace to serve as the focal point.

Flat-front trousers and pointed-toe shoes elongate the leg and create a streamlined finish. Special plans? Have a date-night? Wear a dress that makes you want to check out your reflection any chance you get. Accentuate your waistline and show off your legs with a fit-and-flare mini. Dramatic drop earrings catch the eye and complete the look flawlessly. Typically, a pear-shaped body is narrower on top compared to the hips.

And an hourglass shape has a bust and hips that measure almost the same width. Thicker fabrics that hold structure are ideal for flattering your silhouette.

Wool and denim are great options because they hold their form without clinging. To find one that flatters you, look for a flared leg. If you wish to accentuate your upper body, an off-the-shoulder style is great.

Add a top in a bold print as the focus piece. Capri pants tend to focus the eyes right on the hips. An asymmetrical strap, ruffles, side cutouts, or similar embellishments all work to create the illusion of a bigger chest, thus accentuating an hourglass silhouette. Outfit your upper body in bold colors and big prints. These catch the eye at the top, making your shoulders and chest seem a bit broader than they actually are. Look for the right neckline.

Certain necklines are better for a pear-shaped figure, as they broaden the shoulders and emphasize the bust. Wide necklines like boat-necks and scoop-necks visually widen your shoulders. Bust-enhancing necklines like sweetheart necks draw attention to the bust, making it look fuller. Strapless tops and dresses can also make your shoulders and bust look wider, but may not be a comfortable choice for every pear-shaped girl. Pay attention to the fit.

Deciding between tight and loose can be difficult, as there are pros and cons to each. Look for tops that are tight around the waist and highlight an hourglass figure. Loose tops should be worn a bit long so as to cover the hips and provide substance for the shoulders. In general, the fit of your shirts should aim to highlight your waist and shoulders, something that can be accomplished with the right combination of tight and loose.

Layer your tops. Use layers of tank tops, blouses, and cardigans to create visual interest and give the illusion of added size. Look for embellished tops. Shirts that have adornment near the neck elongate the shoulder and neckline.

Select a load of shirts which have beading, bows, or collars near your neck. These can be large or small, as they both accomplish the same task of drawing the eye upwards and away from your bottom half.

You can also choose to wear a scarf to the same effect. Look for tops with wide sleeves. Wide sleeves add volume to your arms, and as a result, your naturally voluminous hips and rear look more balanced and proportioned. If nothing else, try to wear shirts that have rolled or scrunched sleeves; these also add volume to your arms, but without making such a bold fashion statement. Choose shirts that are the right length.

Look for tops that skim over your hips; tops that extend just below your hipbone extend your torso and mask the widest part of your hips. Avoid hemlines that reach down to your thighs, however, since these will only make the widest part of your legs look wider. On the flip side, crop tops should be widely avoided for drawing attention to your midsection, which is too close to your hips to be flattering. Wear the right undergarments.
